Ibuprofen/famotidine

Also Known As: Ibuprofen/famotidine, Duexis

This is a combination medication attempting to use famotidine (pepcid) to reduce the risk of GI upset associated with ibuprofen.

Famotidine (INN/fəˈmɒtɪdn/ is a histamine H2-receptor antagonist that inhibits stomach acid production, and it is commonly used in the treatment of peptic ulcer disease (PUD) and gastroesophageal refluxdisease (GERD/GORD). It is commonly marketed by Johnson & Johnson/Merck under the trade namesPepcidine and Pepcid and by Astellas under the trade name Gaster. Unlike cimetidine, the first H2antagonist, famotidine has no effect on the cytochrome P450 enzyme system, and does not appear tointeract with other drugs.[2]

Ibuprofen (INN) (/ˈbjuːprfɛn/ or /bjuːˈprfən/ eye-bew-proh-fən; from iso-butyl-propanoic-phenolic acid) is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) used for pain relieffever reduction,[1] and for reducingswelling.

Ibuprofen has an antiplatelet effect, though it is relatively mild and somewhat short-lived compared withaspirin or prescription antiplatelet drugs. In general, ibuprofen also has a vasodilation effect.[2] Ibuprofen is a 'core' medicine in the World Health Organization's Model List of Essential Medicines necessary to meet the minimum medical needs of a basic healthcare system.[3][4][5][6]
