An ulcer is a discontinuity of the skin exhibiting complete loss of the epidermis and often portions of the dermis and even subcutaneous fat.[29] This can have many causes and knowing the cause can lead to a more accurate treatment. This study combines all ulcers with an abrupt onset and lasting greater than 1 month.
